How to make Tamilnadu style Tomato Pickle

In this preparation the main ingredient is tomato. Tomato is rich in vitamins and mineralsand also helps in digestion. So it is very healthyand also and tasty and can be used as an alternative for any dish.


  1. Tomato -500 gms

  2. Tamarind-100 gms

  3. Chilly powder-4 tbs

  4. Salt -to taste (accordingly)

  5. Turmeric powder-1 tsp

  6. Jaggery-200 gms

  7. Oil-100 gms

Method to Prepare

Wash the tomatoes and put it in the boiling water for 5 minutes.Peel them and grind it into a fine paste.Take the tamarind and squeeze it into thick syrup.Add ingredients 3,4 and 5 to it and boil it into a thick consistency.Then add the well grinded tomato paste to it . Let it boil for 5 to 8 minutes.Then add jaggery to it. let it boil for somemore time.When it starts crackling keep it for another 3 to 5 minutes and switch off the stove.finally take some oil and fry some mustard,fenugreek.curry leaves and dry red chilly for extra taste. Let it get cool down and can be refrigerated and used for longer time. this preparation will lasts for more than 2 months if kept in fridge.
