This paneer matar masala is especially a north Indian dish . It is a very tasty dish as it is a mixture of paneer and peas in a thick tomato gravy . Very healthy beacause of paneer's nutritional values . Very well suited with chappati , naan and also okay with rice .
Paneer - 250 gms
Green peas - 250 gms
Onion - 2
Green chillies - 4
Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
Tomato - 3
Oil - 3 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Chilly powder - 1 tsp
Corriander powder - 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam masala - 1 tsp
Pepper powder - 1 tsp
Bay leaves - 2
Salt - As needed
Corriander leaves - For garnishing
Kasuri methi - 1 tsp
At first half cook the green peas (matar) in a pressure cooker and keep it aside .
Now heat a pan and pour some oil to it . Now add the onion , green chillies and ginger garlic paste and saute well . When it is slightly golden in colour add tomatoes to it and saute well till oil separates .
Now add chilly powder , garam masala , corriander powder , turmeric powder , pepper powder and saute well till its raw smell disappears .
Now switch off the stove and leave it to cool . Then blend this in a mixer to a fine paste .
Now heat a pan with the rest of oil and fry cumin seeds and bay leaves .Add the masala paste to it and also add the half cooked peas and pour enough water for the peas to get fully cooked . Dont forget to add salt .
Let it boil for 5 - 8 minutes with the lid closed . When the gravy gets thickened add crushed kasuri methi .
Add the paneer cubes and let it boil for just 1 - 2 minutes .
Garnish it with corriander leaves and switch off the stove .
You can also add 2 - 3 tsp of fresh cream optionally to add to its taste .
Now the tasty , spicy paneer matar masala is ready to serve .
